As many of you know, Way of the Dolphin is not the only project on my plate — WeEarth.com is there too and in fact it’s first up. We’ve been working hard on it for a number of months and have now reached a preliminary milestone — we have “gone live” on the internet. Read the rest of this entry »

The Writer’s Guild strike is over, and there are smiles all around at MovieBank Studios as three-time Emmy winner Wendell Morris has taken over the screenwriting helm for Way of the Dolphin. Morris, who won Emmy’s for Steven Spielberg’s TV series Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, was co-writer with me on Eye of the Dolphin and he’s been sorely missed these last few months. He will be performing writing services over the next four weeks as we gear up for production in May in the Bahamas. With Susan Johnson and Wendell both now on board, the production is ready to rock.
MovieBank Studios and Quantum Releasing have announced the provisional schedule for Way of the Dolphin. The schedule is still subject to change due to actor availability issues, and other issues and it is important to understand that even the major studios typically go through a number of revisions to schedule. In the uncertain indie world where mini-studios like MovieBank operate – revisions are even more likely. Following, then, is the provisional schedule.
- Feb 25-March 24: Script revisions
- March 24: Pre-production begins: Script ready, casting begins
- April 21: Bahamas Phase of prep starts
- May 19 — Principal Photography begins in Bahamas
- June 06 — Principal Photoraphy ends in Bahamas
- June 9 — Principal Photography in US begins
- June 20 — Principal Photography in US ends
The location filming in the Bahamas is on Grand Bahama Island, based out of Port Lucaya at the Sheraton Hotel and Casino.
More updates to follow and again — this cannot be considered to be “cast in stone”…..but know that the entire team is going to be working very had to make this schedule happen.

It’s with a great deal of pleasure and relief that I’m able to announce that effective February 18, Susan Johnson has rejoined the MovieBank and Quantum team and is now fully in charge of the prep and development for Way of the Dolphin. Susan produced Eye of the Dolphin with me and she is an essential element in the creative team as we go forward with Way of the Dolphin. Her first job will be to huddle with writer Wendell Morris (3 time Emmy winner and co-writer with me on EOD), who just became available to work on Way of the Dolphin with the end of the Writer’s Guild strike last week. I’ve been aware that the critics haven’t been exactly friendly to Fool’s Gold, which according to Box Office Mojo just passed the $42M Box Office mark on this, its second weekend in release. So when my wife said she wanted to take in a movie on Sunday afternoon, it wasn’t really on my radar screen as one of the top choices. (For me, In Bruges seemed the best bet.) But she said she was “in the mood” for a light island romp, so off we went. Read the rest of this entry »
by Michael D. SellersCarly Schroeder, star of Moviebank and Quantum’s Eye of the Dolphin and the upcoming Way of the Dolphin, has been ranked #6 among teen actresses in a viral video currently making the rounds of the internet on YouTube, beating out such notables as Harry Potter’s Emma Watson , Dakota Fanning, Ashley Tisdale, and High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens. The top 10 :
It’s been an enormously hectic at both MovieBank and Quantum, creating a somewhat “crazed” week at the studios, with travel and consultants and writers and more conspiring to keep me from blogging quite as much as usual. I did manage five posts over the week but they were mostly quickies. I’ll try to give some additional details here. Read the rest of this entry »
Just saw this. Boatwright is a very influential Christian critic. His newsletter goes out to over 13 million readers. He gives Eye of the Dolphin highest honors in the “for teen girls” category of his rankings — not even qualifying it as an “indie” film not produced by the studios.
By Phil Boatwright / Baptist PressThursday, February 7, 2008KANSAS CITY, Kan. (BP)–Studios were once regulated by a Motion Picture Production Code established in the 1930s to protect the values and moral concepts society considered the standard to live by.Violent acts had to be filmed in a way that would not jolt the viewer. Actors could not utter “God” or “Jesus” in a profane manner. And nudity and perversity could not be shown. Sound restrictive? Many filmmakers believe it was. But when closely examined, films from that period were able to deal

Free Dolphin Films (name is a coincidence) announced today that they are going to release a four language version version of Eye of the Dolphin simultaneously in France, Spain, and Italy in late summer 2008. The single DVD will have all the special features of the US Edition, plus will have the benefit of Europe-wide promotion. This is the first time any of our films have gotten this kind of release. We will have more details soon and will pass them along.
From Michael SellersLions Gate will be releasing Eye of the Dolphin on DVD in the UK in June…..here is their artwork which just came in. As we have discussed at various times, Adrian Dunbar who plays Hawk is quite a star in the UK and should help the sales there. In Ireland and Northern Ireland he’s one of the very top stars. Lions Gate feels very optimistic about the release.
